David grew up in Bangs, Tx. He was actively involved in varsity athletics as a student athlete at Bangs High School. He attended Howard Payne University for his undergraduate and later got a Masters Degree in banking from SMU. 

David is married to Amanda Sheffield. Amanda competed in basketball at McLennan Community College and finished her degree at Howard Payne University. Amanda earned All-American honors twice in both basketball and softball in college.

Since 2018, David and Amanda have run their own travel softball organization, overseeing multiple teams and investing in the lives of young athletes. Through their leadership, they have intentionally incorporated FCA into their program and have seen many players come to know Jesus Christ and take the step of baptism.

David and Amanda have been married for 15 years and are the proud parents of four children: Corinne, Scout, Hap, and Jaggar.
